Nuchi (Konkani Coconut Rice) with Piyava Gojju ~ One Pot Meal, Simple & Easy to cook ideal for Breakfast.

Nuchi with Pivaya GojjuNuchi with Piyava Gojju is an ideal combination and usually prepared in Konkani Households. Piyava Gojju is a traditional recipe which is very simple and easy to prepare. It is spicy & tangy with 3-4 ingredients. Try this and Enjoy with Nuchi.

Jeerakasala rice can be used for preparing Nuchi or can be prepared with left over Rice.

Recipes:

Nuchi: 

Ingredients:

  • Rice                             - 1 cup any variety of raw rice- Jeerakasala rice, Sona Masoori Rice, Basmati Rice
  • Mustard Seeds          - 1 tsp
  • Urad dal                      - 1 tsp
  • Fenugreek seeds      - 1 tsp
  • Green Chilies             - 2
  • Curry Leaves              - few
  • Water                          - 2 ½ cups
  • Salt                              - To taste
  • Coconut Gratings     - ¼ cup


Wash raw rice (1 cup, any variety of raw rice- Jeerakasala rice, Sona Masoori Rice, Basmati Rice or Broken raw rice) & keep it aside. Heat oil / ghee in a kadai/ pan (1 tbsp), splutter mustard seeds (1 tsp). Add one tsp urad dal, fenugreek seeds (1 tsp) & saute it for 10-15 seconds. Now add green chillies/ red chillies (2), few curry leaves. Saute it for 10 seconds. Now add water (2 ¼ to 2 ½ cups). Bring it to boil. Add washed rice & salt. Mix well. Once it starts to boil, lower the flame. Cook under cover till soft (stir occasionally). Switch off the flame. Garnish with coconut gratings (¼ cup).

Piyava Gojju: Chop onions finely. Grind red chillies with tamarind water. Add this to chopped onions. Add desired quantity of water and salt. Add little coconut oil (Optional). Enjoy it with Undi or Nuchi.
