Dalithoy ~ A Very simple and healthy soup made with split yellow lentils (Dal Curry)Dalithoy 

The first recipe learnt by most of the Konkani's when they start cooking.

Recipe: 

Ingredients: 

  • Toor Dal                    - 1 cup
  • Turmeric powder    - Little, Optional
  • Asafoetida               - Little
  • Green Chilies           - 2
  • Salt                            - To taste
  • Seasoning
    • Mustard Seeds  - 1 tsp
    • Curry Leaves      - few
    • Red Chili Pieces - 2
  • Coriander Leaves

Wash toor dal (1 cup) well & pressure cook it with pinch of turmeric powder (opt) & water until soft. Mash the cooked dal well. Soak small piece of asafoetida in little water and keep it aside. Heat a vessel, transfer the mashed dal, add slit green chillies (2), salt (To taste) & desired quantity of water. Bring this to boil. Now cook this on a medium flame for 5 minutes. Add asafoetida water (previously soaked and kept aside). Now season it with mustard seeds, curry leaves & red chilli pieces. Garnish Dalithoy with chopped coriander leaves.
